I wanted my first golf driver club to be special. Durability is an important characteristic that any golfer would want in a golf club. I’m no different. My version of the ideal driver club must possess four important qualities – durability, distance, forgiveness, and customizability. I see all these qualities in the Titleist 917 D2 Driver that my friend owns. I’m planning to buy one for myself in the near future.
Who can use the Titleist 917 D2 Driver?
The Titleist 917 D2 Driver is for recreational and competitive players alike. It may not be the best choice for absolute beginners, but anyone who has mastered the basics of the golf drive can make the best use of the Titleist 917 D2. It’s very forgiving and a good solid impact will take the ball a long distance. Select a suitable shaft, adjust the weight, and with a decent drive, you can accurately hit the target spot.
Introducing the Titleist 917 D2 Driver
The makers have invested five years to create the moveable sole weight that acts as the backbone of this driver. Those who have used the Titleist 915 Driver before would at once notice that the 917 D2 is larger. Moreover, this 460cc head driver is squarer due to a slight design change. The use of a larger head in the Titleist 917 D2 Driver has pushed the center of gravity slightly back. This ensures that the driver with lesser RPM (100-200 rpm) than the 915 D2 generates higher spin. These innovations give recreational golfers the freedom to play the drive fearlessly.
Another welcome change in the Titleist 917 D2 Driver that I really appreciated is the impact sound. Every time the golfer hits the ball, I could hear the solid, but low smash, instead of the high pitched crash that the 915 D2 produced.

Features and Benefits
Moveable Weights: To add moveable weights without affecting the clubhead design, the makers have introduced the weight cylinders that contain tungsten or steel inside. These can be used as add-ons and they come in the range of 8 – 16 grams. The weight can be added to the club by unscrewing the cover and sliding it into a simple tube case that houses the cylinder. The simple tube case is lightweight; around 10 grams lighter than any other moveable weights system. Changing the weights will either move that center of gravity forward or backward.
Shafts: You also get to choose from three new shafts. Pick any shaft with the lie and loft that suits you best, and then adjust the weight with the SureFit CG weight system.
Active Recoil Channel: The Titleist 917 D2 Driver comes with an updated and thinner ARC 2.0. This along with the Radial Face 2.0 will add speed to the drive as much as 2 mph.
Golf driver club with moveable weights is not new. But, I was attracted to the Titleist 917 D2 Driver because it’s something special. The driver allows full customization without sacrificing on the distance, speed, or accuracy. Like me, novice and recreational golfers will love this forgiving golf driver. All in all, the Titleist 917 D2 Driver covers all the bases – customizability, distance, durability, and forgiveness.
