Spending Analysis Consumer
spending on golf in the United States in 1998 was not far short of £20 billion,
acording to a survey by the National Golf Foundation. That figure includes playing
fees, equipment, apparel, and food and beverage at golf facilities. The
study questioned nearly 12,000 golfers about their spending habits between February
and November of 1998. Playing fees (club membership subscriptions, green fees
and cart charges) accounted for 60.7 per cent, golf clubs 11.8 per cent, other
equipment (bags, balls, gloves and shoes) 6.8 per cent, apparel 7.9 per cent and
