SoftSpikes Buy British Company

SoftSpikes have acquired British-based spikes and cleats' manufacturer Trisport, who number golf-shoe brand leader FootJoy among their clients.

Trisport, based in Tamworth, Staffordshire, and previously a subsidiary of BI Group, were described by SoftSpikes' chief executive officer Jon Hyman as "the perfect fit" for his company.

"Trisport is the most innovative developer and manufacturer of installation systems in the industry," said Hyman. "By joining forces, we can grow our business."

SoftSpikes now own not only the market's highest performance cleats but also the ability to manufacture their own installation system.

"This new capability extends us beyond just being the leading cleat company," says SoftSpikes' executive vice-president and general manager Philip Talamonti. "It enables us to take a greater role in improving and leading our industry. For instance, we can promote Fast Twist, in our estimation the most effective cleat installation system available, to shoe manufacturers and the marketplace on a much greater scale."

Fast Twist was developed by Trisport in 1998 and is currently available on FootJoy, Dexter and Lady Fairway golf shoes.

Trisport also originated the 9mm insert system, which became the industry standard in 1984 when FootJoy accepted it.
