PING Introduces Colour Codes to Help Golfers Putt Better

PING, the world leader in custom-fit and custom-built golf clubs, has taken putter fitting to the next level by introducing a new Colour Code system that optimises performance and feel for its extensive range of putters.

The new PING® Colour Code system refers to the lie angle of each putter, and is similar to the Colour Code system that PING has offered in its irons for the past 30 years.

"A proper fitting matches the putter to each person's stroke and other preferences. This helps build putting confidence, leading to more holed putts and more enjoyment in a round of golf," said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO.

"With putting accounting for approximately 40 percent of the average golfer's score, the importance of being properly fit for a PING putter cannot be emphasised enough," he added.

The new PING putter Colour Code system is wide-ranging and designed to properly fit all golfers, no matter their height, putting style or playing ability. It is offered at no additional cost.

There are 10 putter Colour Codes available, each representing a different lie angle that varies by one degree. They include maroon (5 degrees upright), silver (4 degrees upright), white (3 degrees upright), green (2 degrees upright), blue (one degree upright), black (standard), red (one degree flat), orange (2 degrees flat), brown (3 degrees flat) and gold (4 degrees flat).

Selecting the proper PING putter Colour Code could prove to be a vital aid to better putting, given that the proper lie angle helps the golfer to align the putter to the target line, and also ensures that the toe or heel of the putter will not drag on the putting green and open or close the face during the stroke.

Golfers who use a putter that is too flat tend to hit most of their putts right of the target, whereas golfers who use a putter that is too upright tend to miss the hole to the left, according to the company. This can be a fitting problem rather than a mechanical flaw, and performance can be enhanced by using a properly fitted putter.

A sampling of PING professionals who play on the major tours worldwide shows the importance that these players attribute to properly fitting the lie angle of their putters.

Chris DiMarco uses a PING Anserâ Isoforceâ putter that is 4 degrees upright, while Mark Calcavecchia prefers that his mid-length Anser 2 putter is 3 degrees flat.

Jeff Maggert and Kevin Sutherland use PING putters with a red Colour Code (one degree flat), while Lee Westwood and Angel Cabrera have their PING putters set at two degrees flat. Rory Sabbatini prefers 1.5 degrees flat, while Bob May and Miguel Angel Jimenez use PING putters with a standard lie.

On the Ladies European Tour, new PING Staff player, Paula Marti uses a standard lie Darby putter.

In addition to Colour Code, PING custom fits putters for length, loft, grip size and putter model, meaning that golfers have an even better chance of enhancing their putting performance by finding the ideal combination of these variables.
