Crown Sports PLC Results


Crown Sports Plc, the sports and leisure club operator, has announced its preliminary results for the year ended 31st December 2001.

John Weir is responsible for the company’s eight golf clubs. During the year membership increased by 33% and operating profit grew by 75%, a result which Jeff Chapman, chairman of Crown Sports, described as “very satisfactory indeed.” On a total golf club turnover of £8.5 million the operating profit was £2.2 million.

In December 2001 a valuation of the whole group’s property portfolio was carried out by Chesterton HMH. This valuation has been included within the results just announced and includes a downward revaluation of the group’s golf clubs amounting to £8.5 million.

The golf clubs are Batchworth Park, Hertfordshire; The Chase Golf Club in Staffordshire; Ecclestone Park, Merseyside; Effingham Park, Sussex; South Winchester in Hampshire; The Vale Golf and Country Club in Worcestershire; Vale Royal Abbey in Cheshire; and Wickham Park, Hampshire.
