2002: Visitors to the Nike Town store in central London have the
chance to say "I'm Tiger Woods" as they replicate the
world's number one and his fellow Nike Golf Professional David Duval
in a new virtual golf simulator. The simulator (from Visiotics Ltd)
will give golfers the chance to test their accuracy and driving
skills in a simulation of two famous Nike Golf advertisements.
The latest addition
to Nike Town is creating a buzz among golf-lovers in London, as
it provides the last chance to trial Nike Golf's first club offerings
and take advice from the resident golf experts.
Says Nick Lumley,
Golf Pavilion manager, "We have well versed staff on hand to
impart specialist knowledge to the golfing public. We make sure
that golfers get the opportunity to trial the clubs that best suit
their game and, in turn, offer advice on other equipment, such as
finding the right golf ball from Nike's current range."
In 'The Building'
golfer's can test their skills with the new Nike forged irons and
wedges in a recreation of the infamous Tiger ad in which the world's
number 1 player systematically smashes three windows of an office
building.
The second simulation,
a recreation of Nike Golf's 'Dog Gone' advertisement, lets golfers
join 2001 Open champion, David Duval and his dog in the desert.
The simulator has golfers testing the hitting power of the Nike
forged Titanium driver as they try to beat Duval's drive and give
his dog a bit of exercise.
In addition to the two famous Nike advertisements there are also
a number of top European courses such as 2002 Ryder Cup venue The
Belfry, St Andrews, La Boulie and Golf National on which golfers
can test their accuracy and short game.
The simulator
programs have been designed for Nike Golf by Antoine Galbrun of
Visiotics Ltd. They were first seen in the UK at the 2002 Open Championship
at Muirfield in Scotland where more than 5000 visitors went through
the simulator in six days.
Matt Stevenson,
marketing manager of Nike Town London said, 'We always planned to
add another dimension to the golf pavilion when Nike Golf launched
clubs in January, giving visitors the chance to try the new irons
and drivers. Nike has a reputation for doing things differently
and we wanted the simulator to reflect this. Our advertisements
have always been creative and we decided to utilise two of our favourites
for the simulator, giving people the chance to emulate two of the
world's greatest golfers. We are delighted with the initial interest
in the simulator and hope to encourage more people to test the clubs
in an urban environment'.
Golfers keen
to take a test drive on the simulator at Nike Town London can call
020 7612 0800 to book their place or just turn up early and try
to beat the crowds.
