Marriott Appoints Golf-Course Consultant

Robert Laycock, a York-based independent turf consultant, has been appointed to provide agronomic support to the course managers at 11
Marriott Hotel and Country Clubs throughout the United Kingdom.

Encompassing 16 separate courses in England, Scotland and Wales, including top tournament venues St Pierre, Dalmahoy, Hanbury Manor and Forest of Arden, the appointment involves advisory visits and detailed soil and plant analysis.

David MacLaren, director of golf operations at Marriott UK, said: "This
appointment is part of a world-wide strategy by our parent, Whitbread, aimed at reinforcing Marriott Golf's position as the No 1 provider of quality golf and associated hotel and leisure facilities in the United Kingdom.

"The year-round condition of the courses is a key element in Marriott Golf's strategy and vision for the future. Although we are very proud of the work carried out by all our course managers, it was felt they deserved additional independent technical support to help maintain Marriott's golf facilities in peak condition throughout the year."

Laycock came highly recommended after working closely over the past two
years with the course managers at Hanbury Manor and Forest of Arden -
the latter will stage this year's Compass Group English Open from June
7-10.

"My brief is to work closely with all Marriott Golf's course managers to help them maintain the very highest levels of course condition for the benefit of individual club members and corporate and individual visitors from around the UK and overseas," said Laycock.
