Backs Callaway
Titliest boss Wally Uilhein has backed the position of his arch rival Ely Callaway
on the question currently polarising American golf - between conforming and
non-conforming golf equipment, and which should be introduced to new participants.
"Clearly, we have a fractured situation," Uihlein said. "There
are regulatory bodies that think the game is at risk. I don't want to get into
one set of rules or five sets of rules. It really starts with the ideology or
philosophy of 'Is the game at risk?' I don't think it is."
Uilhein continued: "It's interesting this year that Tiger is lapping the
field. He's shooting 12 under and the average score of everybody else is
three over. You heard the voices muffled that technology is ruining the game.
If technology were ruining the game, the results would be closer. We kind
of like it when he laps the field because everybody says, 'Gee, it must be
the player and not the technology." |
