to Stage New Golf Show The
already busy schedule of golf trade exhibitions in Europe over the next nine months
has become even more cluttered with the announcement that Barcelona will play
host to an international show from February 16-18, 2001. A
joint project between International Management Group, the European Tour and the
Catalonian tourist organisation, the Barcelona European Golf Show will be open
to both trade visitors and the public, and is expected to have around 110 exhibitors. The
show aims to cover every aspect of the sport - from equipment and clothing manufacture
and retailing, to golf course design and maintenance, to tourism initiatives,
to governing bodies, event organising and golf media - and 18,000 visitors are
expected over the three days. It
will immediately follow the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, and there must be
doubts about how many of the game's top companies it will be able to attract in
light of the four similar shows which are planned for Europe over the last six
months of this year. These
are the exhibition during the Open at St Andrews next month, the main European
golf show in Munich from September 26-28, GolfExpo at the NEC from November 2-5
and the event organised by Reed International a couple of weeks later in Marbella.
