GULLANE GOLF CLUB
& HUXLEY GOLF

A 200 square yard (166 square metre) Huxley Golf all-weather practice tee installed at Gullane Golf Club, East Lothian, has produced significant reductions in the time and cost of maintenance compared with natural turf.

Prior to the commissioning of the new tee in April, the former all-grass practice area at the renowned Scottish golf club has demanded regular attention to keep the turf in optimum condition for members and visitors. In addition to normal mowing, aerating and top dressing operations, repairs to divot marks were required virtually every day.

According to club manager, Stan Woeram, the new Huxley Golf all-weather practice tee has reduced maintenance to a minimum, enabling the surface to be used virtually without restriction and without interruptions. It has also allowed the adjacent fine turf practice area to be
reserved solely for use ahead of competitions and important matches, such as this year’s Seniors Open Amateur Championship and final qualifying for the Births Open when the tournament is held at neighbouring Muirfield.

“The club his very pleased with the look, feel and playing characteristics of the new practice tee,” added Mr Owram. “Being sand-filled, it not only accepts a tee peg but reacts well when a ball is stuck directly off the pile. All in all, it is proving a great success. Golfers say that they like playing off it and there can be no better recommendations than that.”

Huxley Golf Director Paul Huxley commented: “We are delighted that Gullane are pleased with their new Huxley All-Weather Practice Tee, which was installed using the same Premier Two Inch Tee Turf and Turfill® filler as the Huxley practice areas at the National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa. Huxley Golf and our authorised Sales and Installation Distributors will be pleased to advise any other golf clubs who interested in improving their practice tee areas.”
