New Owner for Hawkstone Park

Hawkstone Park Golf Course and Hotel in Shropshire has been bought by 29-year-old entrepreneur Mark Boler for an undisclosed sum. Boler, who already owns Mere Golf and Country Club in Cheshire, acquired Hawkstone Park from Ellerman Investments, a company owned by the Channel Islands-based Barclay brothers.

Hawkstone Park, home club for many years of former Open and Masters champion Sandy Lyle, has two 18-hole courses, a six-hole academy layout, a 65-bedroom hotel and historic park. Boler has run Mere for over seven years and has spent more than £4 million redeveloping the course and facilities. The two courses were linked before. In the mid 1980s, Hawkstone bought Mere and then sold it to Mr Boler’s late father, Stephen.

“I see Hawkstone Park as a tremendous opportunity,” said Boler. “I want to emulate the success I've achieved at Mere and I intend to invest my time and experience in revitalising Hawkstone Park, returning it to its former position as one of the finest locations in the country.”
