| Bauers
to Leave Wentworth
Willy Bauer is leaving Wentworth after 11 years as chief executive. For more than
a decade, Bauer built up the quality and reputation of the prestigious Surrey
course which stages the Volvo PGA and Cisco Systems World Match Play Championships
every year. The Westbury Hotel on London's Bond Street and its sister on
Madison Avenue in New York were also acquired and improved.
But with the sale of the two hotels and with no plans from parent company
Chelsfield to acquire any more, it seems the challenges are completed for
Bauer and he believes it is time to move on. His wife Zdenka Beck-Bauer will also
leave her role as marketing director at Wentworth. She was instrumental in moving
Wentworth upmarket over the last ten years. In 1995 she was the winner of the
Caterer & Hotelkeeper's Catey Award for the best independent marketing campaign
in the industry.
"We
are both proud of what we have achieved for Chelsfield. Wentworth has become
a blueprint of golf and country clubs in this country and abroad," said
Willy Bauer. He will stay on at Chelsfield in a part-time role. |
